The holistic
approach to education is of relevance to Sri Lanka, especially at the present
time.
The effects of
globalization cannot be escaped, and Sri Lanka, like other open market
economies, is affected by world events. In such a scenario it is
imperative that our workforce — not just our corporate leaders but also our
senior and middle level managers are conversant with the latest thinking in
business management and are aware of international issues and their impact on
the national economy. The University can play a valuable role in imparting this
knowledge to a new generation of employees, providing them with the knowledge
and skills required to thrive in the new economy.
IEL will provide
full-time and distance learning programs at bachelors and masters level, which
will contribute towards overcoming an urgent need for high quality educational
programs. IEL is registered as a non-profit making private institute and should
be commended for its intention of offering affordable degrees. This will enable
students from many sections of Sri Lankan society to participate in its courses.
I wish IEL all
success in its endeavors and encourage students from Sri Lanka to take this
opportunity to be a part of a program that is of an international standard.
