Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial to increase employment marketability and compete successfully in this dynamic global environment.

The soft skills training is provided by IEL to its students of MBA Program and PG Diploma Programs. However for students of Degree Programs, relevant modules will be selected for training. Soft Skills Training provides strong practical orientation to the students helping them in building and improving their skills such as communication, English usage, business correspondence, presentation, team building, leadership, time management, group discussion, interview and inter-personal skills. This training also help students in career visioning and planning, effective resume writing and dealing with placement consultants and headhunters.

Objectives

By the end of the soft skills training students should be able to achieve the following objectives:

  • Develop effective communication skills (spoken and written).

  • Develop effective presentation skills.

  • Conduct effective business correspondence and prepare business reports which produce results.

  • Become a self confident person by mastering inter-personal skills, team management skills and leadership skills.

  • Develop all round personality with a mature outlook to function effectively in different circumstances.

  • Develop a broad career plan, evaluate the employment market, identify the organisation in getting good placement and matching the job requirement and skill sets.

  • Take part effectively in various selection procedures adopted by the recruiters.

Pedagogy

The pedagogy includes lectures, projects, role plays, quizzes, and various other participatory sessions. The emphasis will be on learning by doing.

Training Modules

Module I

  • Business Communication: Communication Skills, Current English usage, Debates, Language games, Situational dialogues, Precis writing, Essay writing, Presentations.

  • Presentation Skills: Preparing for effective presentations, presentation for small groups and large groups, Marketing presentations, Business presentations and Presentations before Regulatory authorities.

  • Business Correspondence: Principles of clear writing, Words often misused, Applications and requests, Positive and negative responses to requests, Routine messages, Memos, Simple report writing, Organizing meetings, Preparation of agenda and minutes, Telephone etiquette, E-Mail etiquette.

Module II

  • Psychological Tests: Aptitude and personality assessment, Suggessions for improvement.

  • Team Skills: Team building and leadership, Evolution of Group into a team, Group Dynamics, Emergence of leadership, Intra-group Dynamics, Inter-group Dynamics, Conflict Management, Inter Dependency, Assessment of Team based projects.

  • Time Management: Pareto’s Principle, Parkinson’s Laws, Murphy’s Laws, Law of clutter, Prioritization, Goal setting, Effective time management.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Negotiations, Listening skills, Social skills, Assertive skills, Cross Cultural Communications.

  • Leadership Skills: Concepts of leadership, Leadership styles, Insights from great leaders.

Module III

  • Career Visioning and Planning.

  • Selection process : Overview of selection process, practice of psychological tests, Effective resume writing, dealing with Placement Consultants and Headhunters, References.

  • Group Discussions: Concepts & Practice.

  • Interview Techniques: Effective Interview Techniques, Mock Interviews, Stress Interviews, Review and feedback.

These modules are tentative, subject to change, if required.
